  24.             The Minnesota  Regional  Network  is  a  mid-level  network,
  25.             founded  in  1987 for the purpose of providing access to the
  26.             NSFNET for  organizations  in  the  Minnesota  area.  It  is
  27.             presently established as a nonprofit corporation with active
  28.             participation by member organizations.  Its  mission  is  to
  29.             provide and facilitate the use of computer networks in order
  30.             to enhance  the  high-technology  research  and  educational
  31.             environment,  and  to increase the productivity and competi-
  32.             tiveness of businesses throughout  the  state.  The  primary
  33.             tasks  of MRNet are to promote, facilitate, and support con-
  34.             nectivity; disseminate information  on  computer  networking
  35.             and technologies; pursue connections to other networks; pro-
  36.             vide a forum  for  the  investigation  of  computer  network
  37.             issues;  and contribute to state, national and international
  38.             planning in computer net- works.

  40.             MRNet's  membership  is  made  up  of  public  universities,
  41.             private  colleges,  private research foundations, government
  42.             agencies, and many large and small businesses.

  44.             _N_e_t_w_o_r_k _A_c_c_e_s_s
  45.  
  46.             Any IP host on the Internet may have  access  to  the  MRNet
  47.             Network Information Center (NIC) or to various members' net-
  48.             work hosts as permitted. Supported  access  includes  email,
  49.             anonymous FTP, news, and nameserver queries.

  69.             MRNet is available to institutions in the Minnesota area who
  70.             need  to  have  access  to  the  Internet  or to other MRNet
  71.             members for educational, research, or other  scholarly  pur-
  72.             suits.  Use  of  connected  or  gatewayed  networks requires
  73.             agreement to the rules and conditions of those networks.
